Musician, artist, and organizer Mark Trecka collaborated with Fishbulb on his recent website launch. Taking direction from Mark’s aesthetic direction, Annmarie worked to develop a site that was streamlined and intuitive, but elevated by the typography, layout, and subtle details.
Visual Inspiration
Mark developed a number of visuals to accompany his albums Acknowledgment and Implication, including both typewriter and photocopy textures and art.
In addition to these pieces, Annmarie and Mark worked through several typography studies for the title and text; settling on Carrie from Vocal Type for the headings, and Roboto Mono for the body text.
Build, Layout, & Detail
Working against current trends in web design, Mark wanted to use a left-hand desktop navigation throughout the site.
Desktop Home
Mobile Home
As a complement to this concept, Annmarie developed a mobile menu that expanded from the bottom of the screen, and retained the character of the desktop menu styling even on the information-rich subpages. Judicious use of categories, subtle headers, and simple color styling made even the densest pages straightforward to navigate and digest.
To facilitate updating the site, Annmarie developed some reusable blocks and patterns in Gutenberg that would allow for easy additions in the future, allowing Mark to add new info while still retaining all the custom styling.
We loved working on this project, and highly recommend checking out all of Mark’s work.
